- Nylon: most popular synthetic fiber, beautiful and long lasting
Advantages: very easy to clean as it is stain and soil resistant. New fiber technologies make nylon able to withstand heavy foot traffic. Nylon is also soft and often made from recycled materials which makes it an environmentally friendly choice.
Disadvantages: can attract soil and is only semi flame resistant
- Polyester: brilliant and soft colorful rugs
Advantages: available in many bright colors and known for its soft and luxurious feel. Stain resistant. Another green option since some polyester is made from recycled plastic bottles.
Disadvantages: tends to attract oil soil
- Olefin: wool-like in feel, colorfast
Advantages: is versatile for many rooms since it will not fuzz, grow mildew or pill and is stain resistant. Often combined with other fabrics.
Disadvantages: does not possess good resiliency in high traffic areas
